North London Retreat

Client:

Matt

Year:

2024

In a small corner of North London, this compact garden has been reimagined as a lush tropical-inspired escape. Despite its limited size, the space offers a sense of privacy, immersion, and atmosphere—designed to feel like a hidden retreat far from the city.

The planting scheme creates a green, textural envelope, with species chosen for their dramatic foliage and structure. A sculptural Ficus carica (fig tree) adds height and architectural interest, while Fatsia japonica and Dicksonia antarctica (tree fern) bring a bold, leafy presence typical of subtropical landscapes. These species thrive in London’s sheltered microclimates and provide a sense of depth and richness even in a small footprint.
